Original: Nick Saban says NIL ‘created an environment with no control, no guardrails’

Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban criticized the NCAA's name, image and likeness system, saying NIL has 'created an environment with no control, no guardrails.' His comments add to ongoing debate among college sports leaders over whether unregulated payments to athletes are destabilizing recruiting and competitive balance. Saban, who retired in 2024, has repeatedly voiced concerns about the direction of college athletics.
