A river in California has run dry, and environmental advocates are accusing the state of failing to do enough to protect its salmon populations, which depend on the waterway. Critics argue weakened flows and insufficient state intervention threaten one of the region's most iconic fish species, renewing debate over California's water management policies.
Why now: The drying of the river has renewed public concern about the survival of California's salmon and the state's environmental policies.
