Calls grow to eliminate kickoffs from football at every level
Original: Time to eliminate the kick off from all levels of football
A commentary argues that the kickoff should be removed from football altogether, at every level of the game, citing player safety concerns around high-speed collisions on the play. The piece adds to a wider debate already underway in American football, where leagues have restricted or reworked kickoffs in recent years to reduce injuries. Opinion remains divided between safety advocates and traditionalists who value the play.
Why now: Ongoing concern over player injuries on kickoffs has made rule-change proposals a recurring talking point in football.
