The UK and France have abandoned the 'one in, one out' migrant arrangement, under which some Channel crossing arrivals could be exchanged for asylum seekers legally relocated to Britain. The scheme had been a flagship attempt to deter small boat crossings. Its cancellation raises fresh questions about how both governments will handle Channel migration and cooperation on returns.
Why now: The collapse of a headline UK-France migration deal is significant news amid ongoing political debate over Channel crossings.
