Singapore launches matchmaking service for government workers
Singapore has introduced a dating and matchmaking service aimed at helping single government workers find partners. The scheme, reported by the BBC, is the latest example of the city-state's long-running efforts to encourage dating and marriage among its population, amid low birth rates. Observers online are reacting to the government's unusually direct involvement in employees' personal lives, with reactions ranging from amusement to scepticism.
Why now: The novelty of a government running a matchmaking programme for its own workers, amid concerns over Singapore's low birth rate, is drawing wide attention.
