Archbishop apologizes after prayer for Trump draws criticism
Original: Archbishop apologizes for Trump prayer
An archbishop has issued an apology after offering a prayer involving Donald Trump, a gesture that triggered criticism from church members and the public. Detractors argued the prayer lent political legitimacy to Trump, while defenders saw it as an act of pastoral duty. The apology has itself become a flashpoint in debates over religion and politics.
Why now: The mixing of senior church leadership with Trump remains a polarizing topic, and the apology fuels ongoing debate over religion and politics.
