Open-source offline alternative to Circle to Search emerges

Original: This open-source Circle to Search skips Gemini and works offline

A new open-source tool replicates Android's Circle to Search gesture but skips Google's Gemini assistant entirely, running fully offline on the device. Users can circle on-screen content to search or act on it without sending data to the cloud. The project is drawing attention for offering a privacy-friendly, offline-first take on a feature Google currently ties to its own AI services.

Why now: Privacy-conscious Android users are interested in alternatives to Google's Gemini-dependent Circle to Search that work without an internet connection.
