Local Wikipedia project maps only what's within a half-hour walk
Original: Local Wikipedia: Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you
A new project called Local Wikipedia offers an encyclopedia limited to places and things within roughly a half-hour walk of the user. Instead of covering global topics, it surfaces hyperlocal knowledge about nearby streets, buildings and landmarks. The idea is drawing attention online, with readers debating whether hyperlocal information filling gaps mainstream Wikipedia overlooks could change how people explore their own neighbourhoods.
Why now: The novel hyperlocal twist on Wikipedia is resonating with people interested in maps, local knowledge and open data.
Rank over time, top of the chart is #1. 364 snapshots from 3 d ago to 9 min ago.
