Local Wikipedia project covers only what's within a half-hour walk
Original: Local Wikipedia: Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you
A new project called Local Wikipedia offers an encyclopedia limited strictly to places and things within roughly a half-hour walk of the reader, flipping Wikipedia's global scope into hyperlocal coverage. The concept is drawing attention online, with people discussing how neighborhood history, shops and landmarks could be documented the way national articles are, and what such a tightly scoped reference might reveal about their own streets.
Why now: The novel idea of radically shrinking an encyclopedia's scope to the walkable neighborhood is capturing interest online.
