Burglars in Spain reportedly use invisible threads to mark empty homes
Original: Burglars in Spain use thin, almost invisible threads on doorframes to check if homes are empty.
A warning is spreading in Spain that burglars place thin, almost invisible threads on doorframes to check whether homes are empty. The idea is that if the thread is undisturbed when residents return, they have been away, signalling a house worth targeting. People are sharing the tip so neighbours can check their doors and stay alert.
Why now: Households are alarmed by a simple trick that could let thieves identify unoccupied homes, so the warning is being widely shared.
