Tehran has appointed a figure widely dubbed its 'missile man' as defence minister, a move reported alongside Iranian claims that the country has crossed a nuclear threshold of more than 50% enrichment. The appointment puts a senior missile programme figure in charge of Iran's military build-up just as its nuclear advances draw international alarm, prompting intense debate about where Iran's weapons ambitions are heading.
Why now: People are reacting to the combination of a prominent missile developer taking the defence portfolio and Iran's claim of enriching uranium beyond 50%, both major escalation signals.
