Free software advocates are mocking the continued use of Microsoft's proprietary file formats in schools. A widely shared meme tagged with LibreOffice, GNU and education hashtags jokes about teachers failing students for not using proprietary software, framing it as an issue of digital freedom and cost in education. Commenters argue schools should teach open standards like OpenDocument instead.
Why now: Frustration among free software supporters over schools' dependence on Microsoft proprietary formats remains a recurring talking point.
