Teachers urged to ditch Microsoft formats for open source
Original: # school # education # format # libreoffice # Microsoft # foss # gnu # freedom # meme # nerd # Software # Microsoft # ec
Free software advocates are calling on schools and teachers to stop requiring proprietary Microsoft document formats and switch to open alternatives like LibreOffice. The argument is that closed formats lock students and schools into paid software, while open standards save money and protect users' freedom. The debate is being shared widely in tech and education circles.
Why now: Ongoing frustration in free software communities about schools tying education to proprietary Microsoft formats.
