Ukraine claims first drone evacuation of wounded soldier
Ukraine says it has carried out its first evacuation of a wounded soldier from the frontlines using a drone, a hexacopter, according to reporting by NBC News. The claim highlights how unmanned aircraft are increasingly being used for battlefield tasks beyond strikes and resupply, including retrieving casualties from areas too dangerous for ground or helicopter evacuation.
Why now: It marks a reported first in battlefield medicine, showing drones expanding into casualty evacuation during the war in Ukraine.
