Fact Check: Ad attacking Susan Collins' opponent aired in wrong Portland
Original: Fact Check: Ad targeting Maine Sen. Susan Collins' opponent Troy Jackson ran in wrong state. Here's who paid
A fact check has confirmed that a political ad attacking Troy Jackson, a Democratic opponent of Maine Senator Susan Collins, aired in Portland, Oregon, rather than the intended Portland, Maine. The error raised questions about who funded the ad and how such a mix-up occurred. The mix-up has drawn attention because Portland's shared name between two states led the campaign material to reach the wrong audience entirely, prompting scrutiny of the ad's backers.
Why now: The unusual mix-up of two Portlands in a competitive Senate race, and questions about who paid for the ad, are drawing attention.
