Japan's H3 Rocket to Launch Martian Moons Mission in 2026
Original: JAXA’s H3 Rocket Set to Launch MMX for 10g of Phobos [2026]
Japan's space agency JAXA is preparing to launch its Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission aboard an H3 rocket in 2026. The spacecraft aims to collect about 10 grams of material from Phobos, Mars's larger moon, and return the samples to Earth. The mission would mark the first sample return from the Martian system.
Why now: The planned 2026 launch window for an ambitious sample-return mission to a Martian moon is drawing attention to Japan's space programme.
