French police used UK-funded vehicles against student protesters

Original: Revealed: French police used UK-funded 4x4 vehicles to charge student protesters

French police used 4x4 vehicles funded by the UK to break up student protests, the Guardian reports. The vehicles were supplied by Britain to help France stop asylum seekers crossing the Channel. The French government says it is investigating how equipment intended for border security ended up being driven at school demonstrators, prompting criticism of both countries' oversight.

Why now: The apparent misuse of UK-funded border security equipment for domestic policing has embarrassed both governments and prompted a French investigation.
