French police used UK-funded vehicles against student protesters
Original: Revealed: French police used UK-funded 4x4 vehicles to charge student protesters
French police used 4x4 vehicles funded by the UK to stop Channel asylum crossings to charge student protesters at school demonstrations, The Guardian reports. The French government has opened an investigation into how the vehicles, provided under cross-Channel cooperation on migration, ended up being deployed against students. The case has raised questions in both countries about oversight of donated equipment and the terms of its use.
Why now: The revelation that migration-funded equipment was diverted to policing domestic protests is drawing scrutiny of UK-French cooperation.
