NetBSD pitches itself as the AI-free free software OS
Original: NetBSD may have found a new role: The AI-free FOSS OS
The Register reports that NetBSD, the long-running BSD operating system, is being positioned as a free and open-source option free of AI features, as awareness of AI ubiquity grows across software. The article notes that rising awareness and adoption are being followed by increasing donations to the project. Commenters in free software circles are weighing whether an explicitly AI-free operating system is a niche worth supporting.
Why now: Interest in AI-free software alternatives is growing, and NetBSD's positioning as such an option is drawing attention and donations.
