NetBSD pitched as the AI-free free software operating system
Original: NetBSD may have found a new role: The AI-free FOSS OS
NetBSD, the long-running open-source operating system known for running on nearly any hardware, is being suggested as a home for developers who want a free software environment untouched by artificial intelligence tooling. The idea positions the veteran Unix-derived system as a deliberately AI-free alternative, at a time when AI assistants are being folded into many mainstream operating systems and developer tools, prompting pushback from parts of the free software community.
Why now: Debate is growing over AI integration in software, making an AI-free free software option notable.
