Writer ditches Google Docs for self-hosted office suite
Original: I stopped using Google Docs after realizing I could host the whole office suite myself
A technology writer says he stopped using Google Docs after discovering he could host an entire office suite on his own hardware. Self-hosting tools like LibreOffice, Nextcloud or CryptPad let users keep documents on their own servers instead of Google's cloud, with collaboration features included. The piece has struck a chord with readers interested in data privacy, subscription fatigue and taking back control of their files.
Why now: Growing interest in privacy, data ownership and alternatives to big-tech cloud services is driving attention to self-hosted office tools.
