Writer ditches Google Docs for self-hosted office suite
Original: I stopped using Google Docs after realizing I could host the whole office suite myself
A tech writer says they stopped using Google Docs after realizing they could host an entire office suite on their own server instead. The piece reflects a growing interest in self-hosting everyday productivity tools, trading the convenience of cloud services for more control over data and lower dependence on big tech subscriptions.
Why now: Growing concern over data privacy and subscription costs is pushing interest in self-hosted alternatives to Google Workspace.
