Jonglei governor's lavish convoy sparks outrage in South Sudan
Original: You can imagine how President travells if this is the governor. In South # Sudan , # Africa ’s poorest and conflict-ridd
The governor of Jonglei State in South Sudan has been criticised for travelling in a convoy of numerous expensive SUVs, in what observers call a striking display of wealth in Africa's poorest and most conflict-ridden country. Critics contrast the motorcade with the near-total absence of basic services, despite the country's oil wealth and its reliance on imports. Commentators suggest the president's own travel arrangements are likely even more extravagant.
Why now: The contrast between elite luxury and widespread poverty in South Sudan is generating fresh anger over government spending.
