Old Android phones repurposed as brains for $400 robots
Original: Scientists turn old Android phones into the brains of $400 walking robots
Researchers have found a way to give discarded Android smartphones a second life as the onboard computers of small walking robots that cost around $400. The phones handle the robot's sensing and control, cutting costs and reducing electronic waste. The project is drawing attention as an example of cheap, sustainable robotics hardware.
Why now: The combination of e-waste reuse and very low-cost robotics makes the project timely and widely shareable.
