Scientists turn old Android phones into $400 walking robot brains
Original: Scientists turn old Android phones into the brains of $400 walking robots
Researchers have found a way to repurpose old Android smartphones as the computer brains of affordable walking robots, keeping the cost of each machine at around $400. The approach recycles hardware most people already own, cutting the usual expense of robot control systems and making legged robotics far more accessible to hobbyists, students and labs on a budget.
Why now: Repurposing everyday smartphones to slash the cost of walking robots is a striking, practical innovation that grabs attention in the robotics community.
