Trump Urges AI to Accelerate Science While Cutting Research Funds
Original: Trump Calls on AI to Speed Up Science–While Continuing to Defund It
President Trump has called on artificial intelligence to speed up scientific discovery, even as his administration continues to cut federal research funding. Critics point to the contradiction of promoting AI as a tool for breakthroughs while defunding the basic science and institutions that produce it. Observers are debating whether AI can realistically compensate for weakened public investment in research.
Why now: The apparent contradiction between promoting AI-driven science and cutting research budgets is drawing criticism and debate.
