Trump Urges AI to Boost Science While Cutting Research Funds
Original: Trump Calls on AI to Speed Up Science–While Continuing to Defund It
President Trump is calling on artificial intelligence to accelerate scientific discovery, even as his administration continues cutting federal research funding. Critics say the two positions are contradictory, arguing that AI-driven breakthroughs depend on the basic research and scientific workforce his budget reductions threaten. Supporters frame AI as a way to get faster results with less spending.
Why now: The contradiction between promoting AI for science and defunding research is drawing criticism and debate.
