Cray-1 supercomputer replica built from 30 old Mac Minis
Original: A Cray-1 supercomputer replica from 30 "obsolete" Mac Minis
A hobbyist has built a working replica of the iconic 1970s Cray-1 supercomputer casing using around 30 retired Mac Mini machines as the computing hardware. The project pairs the famous curved supercomputer design with cluster computing from machines most people would consider obsolete, and it is drawing attention and admiration from tech enthusiasts.
Why now: The clever combination of vintage supercomputer nostalgia with recycled consumer hardware is delighting the tech community.
