Builder creates Cray-1 supercomputer replica from 30 Mac Minis

Original: A Cray-1 supercomputer replica from 30 "obsolete" Mac Minis

An enthusiast has built a full-scale replica of the iconic 1970s Cray-1 supercomputer using roughly 30 older Mac Mini machines clustered together, Ars Technica reports. The project turns hardware many would consider obsolete into a working tribute to one of computing's most recognizable designs, and the idea of clustering retired Macs into a retro supercomputer shell is drawing wide attention.

Why now: The clever combination of nostalgia for the Cray-1's famous design and creative reuse of old Mac hardware appeals to tech enthusiasts.
