Researchers in Bolivia have collected more than 4,000 camera-trap photographs in an effort to locate the short-eared dog, one of the Amazon's rarest and least understood canids. The species, Atelocynus microtis, is so elusive that basic facts about its population and range remain unknown, and conservationists hope the photographic data will help map where it survives.
