UN urges faster climate action before COP31 despite overshoot
Original: ‘Overshoot is not a reason to surrender’: UN calls for accelerated climate action ahead of COP31 summit
The United Nations is calling for accelerated climate action ahead of the COP31 summit, warning that overshooting agreed warming limits is 'not a reason to surrender'. UN officials stress that every fraction of a degree avoided still matters, urging governments to strengthen emissions cuts and adaptation efforts rather than giving up on climate goals.
Why now: Attention is focused on climate diplomacy as the COP31 summit approaches and global warming targets look increasingly at risk.
