Sudan's Burhan holds firm in talks with Trump's Africa adviser
Original: Sudan • Burhan remains poker-faced in encounter with Trump's Africa advisor
Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met with the Trump administration's senior Africa adviser, giving away little in the encounter. The meeting comes as Washington weighs its approach to Sudan's civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. Burhan's guarded stance suggests he is resisting pressure over terms of engagement, ceasefire efforts and future political arrangements while keeping his options open with the US.
Why now: Sudan's war and Washington's shifting Africa policy make any high-level Burhan-US contact significant right now.
