EU pulls sponsorship of disinformation conference after US pressure
Original: EU drops sponsorship of disinformation conference at Trump officials’ request
The European Union has withdrawn its sponsorship of an international disinformation conference, reportedly at the request of Trump administration officials. Lithuania and Canada were also pressured to pull out, and just days before the Disinfo2026 event, sponsors' logos were removed from the conference website. Observers say the episode highlights growing US pressure on European governments over disinformation policy and raises questions about the future of transatlantic cooperation on the issue.
Why now: It suggests the US administration is directly pressuring democratic partners to back away from disinformation work, a notable shift in diplomacy.
