EU pulls sponsorship of disinformation conference after Trump officials object
Original: EU drops sponsorship of disinformation conference at Trump officials’ request
The European Union has withdrawn its sponsorship of a major disinformation conference after requests from officials in Donald Trump's administration. Lithuania and Canada were also pressured to pull out, and shortly before the #Disinfo2026 event, sponsors' logos were removed from the conference website. Critics see the move as a concession to Washington that undermines the EU's own fight against disinformation.
Why now: Fresh reporting reveals the EU caved to US government pressure, raising concerns about transatlantic relations and the future of disinformation policy.
