Critics are condemning the United Nations and Secretary-General António Guterres over the invitation extended to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address the UN General Assembly. An interview describes the invitation as "global cowardice and complicity displayed on the world stage," arguing Netanyahu was welcomed "on the red carpet inside UN HQ" while directing the war in Gaza. Commenters are framing the reception as evidence of institutional failure over the conflict in Palestine.
Why now: Netanyahu's invitation and reception at the UN General Assembly has reignited anger over the UN's handling of the Gaza war.
