The Internet Stops: A Nod to E.M. Forster
Original: The Internet Stops Some thought on the slowing internet, after reading E.M. Forster's The Machine Stops https://www. ide
A Dutch blogger has published an essay titled 'The Internet Stops', reflecting on the perceived slowing and degradation of the modern internet through the lens of E.M. Forster's 1909 science fiction story 'The Machine Stops'. The post draws a parallel between Forster's dystopian machine-dependent society and today's frustrations with a sluggish, commercialised web, striking a chord with readers worried about the internet's direction.
Why now: Growing public frustration with the perceived decline in internet quality has renewed interest in Forster's cautionary tale.
