The Internet Stops: Forster's Dystopia Feels Timely

Original: The Internet Stops Some thought on the slowing internet, after reading E.M. Forster's The Machine Stops https://www. ide

A Dutch blog post titled 'The Internet Stops' draws on E.M. Forster's 1909 novella The Machine Stops to reflect on the slowdown of the internet. The essay compares today's degraded, congested online experience with Forster's vision of humanity dependent on a failing machine. It is a modest, literary take on widely shared concerns about the state of the web.

Why now: Growing frustration with a slower, worse internet makes Forster's century-old dystopia resonate as an apt analogy.
