Art of Elan stages Messiaen concert under Anza-Borrego desert stars
Original: Art of Elan performs ambitious Messiaen piece beneath the Anza-Borrego stars
Art of Elan, the San Diego-based chamber music collective, performed an ambitious work by French composer Olivier Messiaen outdoors in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, with the music set against the night sky. The open-air staging pairs Messiaen's famously cosmic, birdsong-infused writing with a natural desert setting, drawing attention as an unusual meeting of classical music and landscape.
Why now: The striking combination of a demanding Messiaen work and a starlit desert venue makes the performance a talking point among classical music and arts audiences.
