Lithuania offers to fund costs of a US military base

Original: Lithuania says it would pay the cost if US establishes military base

Lithuania says it would cover the costs if the United States decides to establish a military base on its territory. The offer, reported by Reuters and Defense News, signals Vilnius's push to deepen its security ties with Washington amid concerns over regional defense. Officials appear keen to remove any financial obstacles to a permanent American military presence in the Baltic state.

Why now: Ongoing debates about US force posture in Europe and Baltic security concerns are keeping the proposal in the news.
