Original: New York declares first US measles disaster emergency since 2025 surge
New York has declared a disaster emergency over measles, the first such US declaration since the 2025 outbreak surge. The move grants state health officials expanded powers to respond to spreading cases, including faster vaccination and quarantine measures. Health authorities are urging residents to check their immunisation status as the outbreak grows.
Why now: Measles cases are rising again and the emergency declaration signals an unusually serious public health response.
