Texas agencies keep Flock cameras on despite funding lapse

Original: Texas agencies betting that Abbott will restore funding keep Flock cameras on

Texas agencies are continuing to operate Flock Safety license plate reader cameras even though state funding for the program has lapsed, wagering that Governor Greg Abbott will restore the money. The Texas Tribune reports the agencies are keeping the surveillance systems running in anticipation of reinstatement, a bet that keeps automated plate scanning active across the state in the meantime.

Why now: The ongoing dispute over state funding for Flock's surveillance cameras has raised questions about whether agencies can legally keep the systems running without appropriations.
