Texas agencies keep Flock cameras on pending Abbott funding decision
Original: Texas agencies betting that Abbott will restore funding keep Flock cameras on
Local agencies in Texas are leaving Flock automated license plate cameras running despite funding questions, wagering that Governor Greg Abbott will restore state funding for the program. The standoff highlights uncertainty over whether the state will reinstate money for the surveillance network, with agencies choosing to maintain operations rather than shut the cameras down in the meantime.
Why now: Funding for Texas's Flock camera program is in limbo and agencies' decision to keep operating has drawn attention to whether Abbott will restore it.
