Brazil's presidential race heads to runoff as Flávio Bolsonaro leads Lula
Original: Brazil’s presidential race goes to second round as Flávio Bolsonaro leads incumbent Lula
Brazil's presidential election will go to a second round after Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, took a stronger-than-expected lead over incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Lula described the result as 'unexpected', setting up a decisive runoff between the governing left and the far-right challenge.
Why now: The unexpected strength of Bolsonaro's challenge and a second-round vote have made the election's outcome suddenly uncertain.
