Claims of plague outbreak in Russia tied to biolab leak
Original: Plague outbreak in Russia due to biolab leak. Meanwhile, an outbreak of populism in Ukraine
Reports and commentary circulating online claim a plague outbreak in Russia was caused by a leak from a biological laboratory. The claim comes alongside remarks contrasting the situation with political populism in Ukraine. No official confirmation of either the outbreak or its alleged laboratory origin has been verified, and similar biolab claims have circulated repeatedly since 2022 without independent evidence.
Why now: Unverified claims linking disease outbreaks to laboratory leaks draw wide attention, especially amid ongoing Russia-Ukraine information warfare.
