Claim of plague outbreak in Russia linked to biolab leak
Original: Plague outbreak in Russia due to biolab leak. Meanwhile, an outbreak of populism in Ukraine
A widely shared commentary claims a plague outbreak has occurred in Russia as a result of a leak from a biological laboratory, while also accusing Ukrainian figures of a surge in populism. No independent confirmation of a plague outbreak or lab leak is provided, and Russian authorities have made no such announcement, so the claim remains unverified.
Why now: The claim ties into ongoing wartime propaganda narratives and biosecurity fears, prompting strong reactions
