Sudan pro-democracy leader warns army on Islamist rule
Original: Sudan pro-democracy leader warns army against restoring Islamist rule
A leading Sudanese pro-democracy figure has publicly warned the country's army leadership against any move to restore the Islamist-aligned regime that ruled Sudan for decades before the 2019 uprising. The warning comes as Sudan's civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces continues, with fears growing that old-regime loyalists are regaining influence inside state institutions.
Why now: Fears are rising that supporters of Sudan's ousted Islamist regime are regaining power amid the ongoing civil war.
