Retro horror fans revisit Critters, the Gremlins knock-off that found its own fans
Original: Everyone knew Critters was a Gremlins knock-off when it came out, but it's still entertaining in its own right. It does
Film fans are revisiting the 1986 horror-comedy Critters, long dismissed as a knock-off of Gremlins. A popular take holds that the film is still entertaining in its own right, even if it lacks the holiday cheer that made Gremlins a Christmas-season staple. The comment has reignited light debate about 1980s creature features and how imitators earn their own reputations over time.
Why now: Nostalgic movie-of-the-day discussions are prompting film fans to reassess 1980s creature features like Critters.
Evidence
- Everyone knew Critters was a Gremlins knock-off when it came out, but it's still entertaining in its own right. It does lack the holiday cheer, though. :D # MovieADay # Cinema # Film # Movies · JediSoth@chirp.enworld.org · 1
