Spanish police clear migrant camp in Ceuta ahead of royal visit
Original: Spanish police clear migrant camp on Ceuta beach ahead of royal visit
Spanish police dismantled a migrant camp on a beach in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave on the North African coast, shortly before a royal visit to the territory. The timing of the clearance has drawn attention to Spain's handling of migration in the enclave, where overcrowded camps have long been a source of tension between authorities and aid groups.
Why now: The clearance of migrants just before a royal visit has raised questions about how Spain manages migration when hosting high-profile events.
