Large bumblebees around now are queens

Original: You’ve been seeing very large # bumblebees on the wing for the past while. Why? Okay I’ll tell you why in this quick thr

An Irish bee expert is explaining why people have been noticing unusually large bumblebees flying lately: they are queens, not a new species. In a short public thread he urges people to learn the difference, since helping a queen bumblebee survive means more colonies next spring, and he is asking readers to share the explanation widely.

Why now: People are spotting big bumblebees at this time of year and the explanation that they are queens is being shared as useful public education.
