A redaction error in documents about Google's data center in Lincoln, Nebraska, has revealed the facility's previously withheld water and electricity consumption figures. The disclosure comes amid growing public scrutiny of data centers' resource demands, particularly those serving AI workloads, and has prompted local questions about transparency and the project's environmental impact.

Why now: Data centers' water and energy consumption is a hot topic as AI expansion raises environmental concerns, and the accidental release of hidden figures fuels debate over corporate and government transparency.
